What size shafts does the Uni-Fit handle accept?
The Uni-Fit Handle accepts a shaft size up to 15/32 of an inch.
Do I have to remove the old handle for the Uni-Fit to work?
Yes, you will need to remove any handle or part of a handle for the Uni-Fit Handle to slide over the shaft.
If the splines on the brass shaft are damaged or worn off, will the Uni-Fit still work?
Yes, the Uni-fit Handle is specifically designed to be a solution for that problem. It can be hand tightened on, or a pair of plyers can gently be used to tighten even further for difficult applications.
I can’t remove the screw and the center part of the old handle. Will the Uni-Fit go over this?
No, there needs to be at least 3/8 inch of shaft that is smaller than 15/32 inch for the Uni-Fit to work. You can use a hack saw to cut a slit into the pot metal center part of the existing handle and break it free with plyers. You can even cut the old handle completely off, right below the old handle base, as long as you leave enough shaft for the Uni-Fit Handle to grasp it.
Can the Uni-Fit Handle left on the outside spigot? Or does it have to be removed?
The Uni-Fit Handle is very weather and UV resistant. It was designed to either be left on the outdoor spigot or it can be removeable. After some time in the weather, it may become stiffer to use. Simply spray some liquid lubricant into the end and it will become easier to use.
Can I use the Uni-Fit handle to turn the water on to let it drip, then remove it, to keep my pipes from freezing. I don’t want anyone to easily be able to walk over and turn if off.
